7 ways to spend winter in Warsaw
The air temperature dropped well below zero this week. Outside the window it is sunny, but the cold even freezes the blood. The first thought that comes to mind on such days is to sew yourself at home and not go out. But we live in a city, that has a lot to offer, not only in summertime. Below you will find 7 ways on how you can spend your days enjoying the cold winter in Warsaw.
1. Guided Tours – PGE Narodowy
One of the best known objects in Warsaw surely is PGE Narodowy. A tour of the stadium and getting to know its different parts and history can be one of the ways to fight cold weather and winter boredom. You can chose one of four available routes – the football player route and among other things see the locker room, enter the VIP boxes during the exclusive route, see what has remained from the previous stadium before PGE Narodowy during the historical route or let yourself be guided by the famous sports journalist Stefan Szczepłek on the “well-known and well-liked” route. And at the end – for the icing on the cake – enter the viewpoint at the top of of the stadium.
2. Hala Koszyki
Have you been to the newly opened Hala Koszyki yet? If not, winter weekends is the perfect time to do so. Koszyki is a great place to meet with friends over good food in a nice and trendy environment. There are numerous restaurants and cafes, serving cuisines from around the world, as well as healthy food stores there. However, I would recommend to park your car somewhere outside even if the air temperature is beow zero, because the underground parking costs a fortune here, unfortunately.
3. Yoga and meditation in Łazienki Królewskie
One of the best ways to relax your frozen body is yoga. Recently, I found this sport for myself and I fell in love with its soothing effect not only on the body but also the mind. Especially in winter, when we are lacking sun and vitamin D so much, yoga can work wonders.
In January you can start every Saturday morning with yoga and meditation at Łazienki Królewskie. Classes begin at 9:15, entrance is free. This will certainly make you start your weekend with a positive vibe.
4. Breakfast in the city
If you have been reading our blog for some time already, then you know that we just love discovering new places for breakfast in Warsaw. Especially in winter, when air temperatures drop well below zero, and it gets dark early in the evenings, sunny mornings are so important and we want to use them the best we can. Therefore, undoubtedly one of the best ways to spend a winter morning is by having hot coffee and breakfast in some cozy cafe.
5. “David Bowie is” – a museum differently
One of the things you can do in wintertime is going to the museum. If you have already been to all the more interesting museums in Warsaw and are looking for ideas of what else you could see – consider going to the cinema! On the 10th of January, which is the anniversary of David Bowie passing, in Multikino in Złote Tarasy and in Ursynów you can watch a filmed version of an exhibition of his music memorabilia from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
For more information visit the website of Multikino: https://multikino.pl/pl/wydarzenia/Wystawy/david-bowie-is
What can warm up and move a frozen body better than sports? Sports in good company! The best sport that you can practice in a group for me turned out to be climbing. About two years ago, me and a group of friends found it to be a wonderful way to spend winter evenings together, having great fun and doing something good for yourself at the same time. It is quite a challenge too!
One of the great places where you can climb is Bloco & CrossFit Dock
7. Skiing – Szczęśliwicka Hill
If you belong to those people who like winter and instead of running away from it, prefer to use these rare white days we have in Warsaw, we recommend you the Szczesliwicka Hill. It is a good opportunity to take out your ski equipment from the closet at least for a short time and have some fun on the slopes. Especially if you are planning a trip to the mountains this year, it will be the perfect place to work on your body condition to prepare. You can also have lessons with a ski instructor.
You will find some more information on Szczęśliwicka hill here.
